Tutor901 Day Celebrates Students, Tutors & the Power of Community

We celebrated another successful year of Tutor901 by welcoming students, families, volunteer tutors, educators, and community partners to Tutor901 Day, the program's annual end-of-year celebration.

More than 225 people representing 17 Memphis-Shelby County Schools gathered to recognize the hard work and accomplishments of students and the dedicated volunteers who supported them throughout the school year. The event celebrated not only academic growth but also the relationships and confidence that develop through consistent, high-quality tutoring.

Tutor901 provides high-impact, small-group reading tutoring designed to help elementary students strengthen foundational literacy skills. Students meet regularly with trained tutors using evidence-based instructional practices that complement classroom learning and help build reading confidence. To help students continue learning over the summer, Literacy Mid-South distributed nearly 500 free books, giving families new opportunities to build reading habits at home and prevent summer learning loss.

Thanks to the Memphis Grizzlies, whose generous support provided participating students with backpacks and school supplies, helping ensure they have the resources they need for continued success beyond the classroom. Tutor901 Day serves as a reminder that literacy is a shared responsibility. When schools, volunteers, families, and community partners work together, students receive the encouragement and support they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

We are grateful to every volunteer tutor, school partner, family, and supporter who makes Tutor901 possible and continues to help create brighter futures for young readers across Memphis and Shelby County.
