Reading Partners is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization that delivers one-on-one, evidence-based literacy tutoring to elementary students using a structured, research-backed curriculum.
-
AmeriCorps members serve as tutors, providing individualized 45-minute sessions twice per week to the same students. Each session follows a structured lesson plan targeting key literacy skills like phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
-
Students are assessed using the STAR Reading assessment at the start and end of the program term. These scores guide individualized instruction and help track student growth over time.
-
Tutors lead interactive read-alouds—a literacy practice that builds vocabulary, comprehension, and engagement by encouraging students to respond and discuss texts during reading.
