In the wake of developments regarding COVID-19, or coronavirus, Literacy Mid-South is taking every precaution possible to ensure the safety of our learners, volunteers, community partners, and staff.
At this time, Literacy Mid-South strongly encourages everyone to cancel tutoring sessions until further notice. Taking our guidance from the Center for Disease Control, Literacy Mid-South is implementing several mitigation strategies so that we can ensure the safety of all our stakeholders.
Additionally, the Literacy Mid-South offices will be closed until further notice. All Literacy Mid-South events (including the March tutor training) have been cancelled until further notice. What our community is currently facing is ongoing and changing quickly. Literacy Mid-South hopes to remain proactive throughout this time to ensure the health and safety of all our community. As we remain proactive, Literacy Mid-South will be donating thousands of books to be distributed alongside meals at city community centers, engaging our community leaders to participate in virtual reading activities, and identifying a variety of resources for learners of all ages to use while learning at home.
To our dedicated team of Literacy Mid-South Volunteers, please see these Adult Tutor Resources for recommendations/best practices to employ for remote tutoring. As our team continues to research tools and methods that we can all use during this time, we will update our website accordingly. Also, please follow us on Facebook and Instagram for additional resources to continue learning while practicing social distancing at home.
To our supporters, families, and fellow Memphians, we are here for you. Take a break from the headlines and pick up a book. Read with your children. Do a puzzle. Build a fort. Paint. Go on a walk. Bake cookies. Cuddle up together and read, read, read. Though this is a scary time, it could very well be a time that your children remember as a precious time in their lives. In addition to regularly scheduled social media posts and book spotlights, we will be sharing family resources to continue learning and bonding at home. Keep a lookout on our social media pages as we continue to post our favorite books, ways to access free read-alouds online for stories that you may not have at home, and additional resources to make learning fun out of the classroom.
The Literacy Mid-South team is here to assist you in any way possible during this time. If you have any questions concerning our Adult Learning Program, please contact Stacy Early. If you have any other questions, please send us an email or call us at 901-327-6000.
Let's take this one page at a time. We are here for you and we are all in this together.
