Who We Are

We are a community-wide literacy campaign of Literacy Mid-South that coordinates, shares, elevates and raises awareness for the current literacy efforts happening across the life span in our community.

What We Do

The mission of Read901 is to collaboratively raise community awareness for the literacy efforts that support all Shelby County residents in our community. Our vision is to be the go-to information hub for all things literacy in the Mid-South.

What We Believe

  • Literacy is the ability to read, write and communicate without barriers.

  • The community should be informed and have access to literacy resources.

  • There are numerous data-driven literacy resources available throughout our community.

  • Literacy impacts the life span.

  • Access to literacy resources will enhance the quality of life of Shelby County residents.

  • Literacy is the GAME CHANGER for creating and sustaining an equitable and empowered community.

We were the people who were not in the papers.

We lived in the blank white spaces at the edges of print. It gave us more freedom.

We lived in the gaps between the stories.
