This is a national public service opportunity--a summer-long, full-time, paid volunteer opportunity. The service term will be Summer 2022. Requires full-time commitment (M-F; 9-5)

Literacy Mid-South (LMS) Summer Associates will be charged with facilitating, recording, and improving LMS supports and resources related to elementary, summer literacy interventions. LMS is an intermediary organization partnering with out-of-school time (OST) programs over the summer who serve elementary students to provide a number of resources and supports. Through partnering with organizations that already serve youth, LMS is able to make a wide impact in the city of Memphis. With AmeriCorps member support, project host sites commit to embedding literacy interventions into their existing programming. In 2021, LMS partner organizations face unprecedented challenges responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. As in 2020, Literacy Mid-South Summer Associates will remain flexible in the support offered—responding to partner and community needs and amplifying LMS’s focus on social-emotional learning techniques and data-driven continuous quality improvement.

Objectives of the Service Term:

  • Develop an understanding of the LMS mission, the goals of OST support, as well as the details of all LMS offered OST supports and resources to effectively aid assigned sub-sites (or projects) in providing literacy interventions.

  • Develop or implement an existing reporting system of inputting, maintaining, securing and transporting data.

  • Develop a working relationship with sub-site by aiding in assessments, literacy activities, and offering support with other daily activities and resources.
