"Dr. Johnny Jeffords, a retired pastor who previously served as the lead pastor at St. John’s United Methodist Church, will assume the interim executive director role. Jeffords steps into this position following the resignation of Literacy Mid-South executive director Knox Shelton.
Jeffords also previously served as an adjunct professor at the Memphis Theological Seminary and as a consultant for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare’s outreach services. His experience spans the realms of fundraising, strategic planning, and project development, among others. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Memphis before attending The Divinity School at Vanderbilt University and then Wesley Theological Seminary.
The board of directors for Literacy Mid-South plans to hire a consultant to aid in the nationwide search for Shelton's permanent replacement.
The organization, which traces its roots back to the 1970s, offers a variety of programs aimed at improving literacy for both children and adults."
