The mission of the Memphis City Schools Adult Education Program is to prepare a diverse student population, eighteen years or older, for productive lives in the 21st Century. This includes empowering students with the necessary academic, technical and social skills to be successful citizens and workers.

Educational Services:

The program offers adult education, ESL, and GED training and open to anyone 17 years of age or older, who is not presently enrolled in a regular secondary school program.


Classes are offered free to adults 17 years of age or older who are no longer enrolled in a regular day school program.

Intake Process:

Step 1 Registration & Placement Test (appointment only)
Step 2 Locator & TABE Assessment
Step 3 Official Practice Test (appointment only)
Step 4 Report to Class/Orientation (admission with class schedule only)


Programs and services are available in various locations throughout Memphis and Shelby County. Hours and times differ based on location. (
