Title: Development Assistant

Schedule: M-F 9-5pm

 Position Overview

The Development Assistant’s primary responsibility is to provide administrative support to the Development team. We are looking for a hard-working, enthusiastic, resourceful, aspirational professional looking to start their career in development.

Reports to: Director of Development

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

 

Job Summary

 

Administrative

  • Schedules staff/team, volunteer, partner, and donor meetings
  • Takes minutes at staff meetings, team meetings, and board meetings as needed
  • Ensures timely distribution of acknowledgement letters and communication with donors
  • General correspondence including: thank you notes, donor acknowledgment letters, birthday card mailings, tributes, etc.
  • Assists with the production of the annual report
  • Provides support in the development of marketing materials
  • May be called upon to assist with special projects and assume responsibility for the development, administration, and promotion of specific projects, as requested
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Development

 

Database

  • Maintains donor database, run reports, etc.
  • Provides support in the management of the organization’s website, including updating information
  • Maintains up-to-date communications lists with donors, volunteers, and community members

 

Annual Giving and Fundraising Appeals and Efforts

  • Assists the Director of Development with fund development and maintaining a strong communications strategy
  • Supports in the implementation of strategies to identify and cultivate new individual, corporate, and congregational donors
  • Gather information from various programs as requested for personalization of solicitation and other marketing materials
  • Manage all mailings for annual giving and spring appeal

 

Events

  • Assists with event planning and management
  • Handle reservations, responds to incoming calls for information about events, maintains up-to-date guest lists for events
  • Coordinate the preparation and production for mailing of invitations, response cards, and other enclosures
  • Manage the set-up of tables and decorations for each event
  • Staff events
  • Coordinate staffing for volunteer gift-wrapping
  • Establish and maintain files on all events
  • Assist in arranging facilities, food service, decorations, audio visual, and other logistical arrangements
  • Solicits and negotiate in-kind gifts of product and service
  • Assists with post-event activities including tracking attendance

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Some experience in nonprofit or related organizations preferred
  • Eager to learn and contribute to a small team
  • Creative and compelling storyteller
  • Resourceful and results driven
  • Observant and intuitive
  • Proactive and self-aware
  • Responsive to direction and feedback
  • Passion for literacy and lifelong learning
  • Ability to eloquently share Literacy Mid-South’s story
  • Familiarity with the Memphis community preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal skills required
  • Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to meet deadlines
  • Available to work evenings and weekends if required
  • Must be able to lift 30lbs
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
